Purple Rooster, North Attleboro, MA

North Attleboro, has been a pretty good breakfast place for us over the years, not great but ok. Mike and I headed there this morning to the Purple Rooster,473 E Washington St. We finally had some sports discussion, braking down the most recent Patriots selections and chatting about the Sox Spring Training. A decent drive to North Attleboro, only about 30 minutes. The Purple Rooster is in a strip mall with a fitness center and a few other businesses. Unusual opening time of 9 AM for a Breakfast/Lunch restaurant. When we got there shortly after opening we were the only customers, coffee was not ready yet so the waiter brought our menus and we had a chance to peruse some interesting choices. I went with my stand by, a Western omelet, which I could have had as a burrito, with home fries ( they also offer warm apples instead of the home fries…should have gone with that). The coffee was New England Coffee and was not just strong, we like strong, it was bitter, and since we were the first customers in the door, we got a fresh pot. One sip, two sips, three.. not good. My omelet was well cooked but a little heavy on the cheese, deli ham ugh. Look at the home fries! I don’t think the chef knows another spice other than paprika and he doused the potatoes with that spice. I love potatoes, but this was awful. I asked how long the place had been open and the waiter said three years at this location and three at the previous one. They must serve an amazing lunch because breakfast was not. We were also the only customers when we left. Coffee, 4; home fries, 2; meal 6; overall, 4. Today we celebrated our 8th anniversary doing this blog. Wish the breakfast had been up to our standards.

The “Boys” took a long ride this morning to “North”. Yeah. If you’re from around here you know where that is. It was nice having a long ride. Lately, we haven’t had a lot of time to discuss all the things that need our opinion; so many things need our wisdom! Where to go for breakfast is one of those things. Today we traveled to the Purple Rooster Cafe. The Rooster doesn’t open until 9am for breakfast. Odd time to open. We got there at 9am and were the only customers there…when we got ready to leave, we were still the only customers there. Hmmmm. I wonder if there were renovations planned as the floor was rough concrete. Perhaps a new floor is on the way? No customers, no floor. Hmmmm. Our waiter was great and put up with a bunch of questions about stuff. We learned they had been at this location for three years after moving from a longer time in Plainville. In all our years doing this, we never had heard of the Purple Rooster…and we try to keep track of these things! Hmmmmm. So, New England coffee. First pot of the day! Hot and…meh. Rats! I was looking forward to a fresh, hot cup of coffee. This was bitter and strong. Double rats! Now, check out the photos. The home fries look dark, don’t they? Well, that’s because there’s WAY too much paprika! They were well cooked but neither Ray nor I could finish them, the flavor was just too strong. Even my old standby golden, delicious egg yolk, couldn’t save these puppies. Triple rats! Even the sausages were only so-so; the common, stuff you can get at the supermarket. Can I quadruple rats? Sigh. The coffee was below average and gets a 4.2 while the home fries get a disappointing 3.8 and the meal, overall, a 4…this gives the Purple Rooster a score of 4
